Toxicity, Anti-inflammatory and Anti-ulcer Studies of Nigerian kalanchoe pinnata (lam.) Plant

Abstract Kalanchoe pinnata (Bryophyllum pinnatum) is one of the medicinal plants used for the treatment of many ailments in the North-central and Southern parts of Nigeria. In continuation of our studies of the pharmacological activities of the plant, the leaf, stem and root extracts were evaluated for toxicity as well as anti-inflammatory and anti-ulcer activities. Synthesis and Characterization of Some Novel Potential Biologically Active 2-Ethoxy-4-{[1-(4-piperidinecarboxyamide-1-yl-methyl)-3-alkyl-4,5-dihydro-1H -1,2,4-triazol-5-on-4-yl]-azomethine}-phenylbenzenesulfonates.

Abstract In this study, because of potential biological activity, five new 2-ethoxy-4-{[1-(4-piperidinecarboxyamide-1-yl-methyl)-3-alkyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-on-4-yl]-azomethine}-phenylbenzenesulfonates (2a-e) were synthesized by the reactions of2-ethoxy-4-[(3-alkyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-on-4-yl)-azomethine]-phenylbenzenesulfonates(1a-e) with formaldehyde and 4-piperidinecarboxamide. The structures of five new compounds characterized from the mass, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR spectral data. Keywords 4,5-Dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-one, Schiffbase, Mannih base, Synthesis. Bioactive Compounds from Marine Microbacterium tumbae ND2.7c Strain by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry

Abstract The objectives of this study were analysis of the secondary metabolite products from extract of marine Microbacterium tumbae ND2.7c strain which isolated from sponges at Ha Tien Sea, Kien Giang province, Vietnam. Eleven bioactive compounds were identified in the organic solvent ethyl acetate-hexane. The identification of bioactive chemical compounds based on the peak area, […]

The synthesis and optimization of a trimethylolpropane based biolubricant from a lard oil base stock

Abstract A lard oil based biolubricant was synthesized through a two stage transesterification reaction. Raw lard oil was synthesized with methanol using potassium hydroxide as catalyst to produce a methyl ester for the first stage transesterification while the second stage involved the synthesis of the methyl ester and trimethylolpropane with sodium methoxide as catalyst to […]

COVID-19: Vaccines and Vaccinations

Abstract Access to safe and effective vaccines is critical to controlling the Covid-19 pandemic. A large number of vaccines are being developed. Researchers are constantly working to produce safe vaccines. The vaccines produced against COVID-19 are designed to promote acquired immunity. Prior to the COVID-19 epidemic, there was a wealth of knowledge about the structure […]

Concepts of Bioequivalence and Therapeutic Interchange

Abstract The FDA, regulatory agencies, industry, and academia have all made significant progress in determining bioequivalence (interchangebility between generic and the innovator product). The FDA in the United States approves and awards generic medication marketing authorization by applying the regulatory procedures set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). The purpose of this article […]

Investigation of Corrosion Inhibition of Zn metal in 0.1M HNO3 by Terminalia Catappa

Abstract Corrosion inhibition potential of Terminalia catappa (TC) leaves for zinc in HNO3 medium was studied using weight loss, Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy.  The corrosion inhibition mechanism of the plant extract on the zinc surface in 0.1 M HNO3 acid at different temperatures (303 – 333K) show that the inhibition efficiency […]

Protective Effect of Quercetin in Blood during Ischemic Stroke is correlated with Declining Malondialdehyde and Iron Level but Enhancing Antioxidant Activity of Superoxide Dismutase

Abstract Quercetin has been documented to display positive effect on anti-oxidation and anti-inflammation. Ischemic stroke may produce a large number of reactive oxygen species so as to elevate oxidative damage. Appropriate essential trace element of iron (Fe) and antioxidant of superoxide dismutase (SOD) are required for the brain for maintaining normal brain functions. This study […]
