Synthesis, DNA Interaction and Cytotoxic Activity Studies of a Novel 2,1,3-Benzothiadiazole-Benzimidazole Derivative

Abstract Benzimidazoles and benzothiodiazoles are biologically active heterocyclic compounds. In here, a new compound 4-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-7-bromo-2,1,3-benzothiodiazole containing both heterocyclic ring systems was prepared. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of the new compound was calculated using the Spartan 10 program. The compound binds to DNA with a moderate strength, and the cytotoxic activity studies show that the relative compound has no antiproliferative activity against cancer cell lines.
