A Quick and Accurate Membrane Sensor based on Bisoprolol Drug for Potentiometric Selective Determination of Thiocyanate Ion

Abstract A novel potentiometric thiocyanate poly (vinyl chloride) membrane sensor with a newly synthesized Bisoprolol as an electroactive ion exchanger is developed. It offers attractive direct fast monitoring tool for SCNin the presence of many common ions. Under the manual operation, the proposed sensor displays high selectivity, wide dynamic response range down to 1.0×10-6M (0.06 µg ml-1), good sensitivity, (slope -57.8 mVdecade-1) and rapid response (10-20s). Under hydrodynamic mode of operation, the sensor exhibits a near Nernestian slope of 51.1± 0.1 mVdecade-1 over concentration range 1.0×10-5– 1.0×10-2 M SCN. These characteristics enable accurate measurements of as low as 0.04 µg /ml thiocyanate. The negligible response of the sensor towards CNand SO32- ions makes the sensor an attractive direct and fast monitoring tool for measurement of SCNin the saliva and urine samples of cigarette smokers and non smokers humans.
